12 Month Tourist Visa - How It Works?
The Australian 12 month tourist visa is designed for those wishing to travel to Australia for an extended holiday, or to visit friends or family. Anyone who is not an Australian citizen or does not hold a New Zealand passport must obtain a visa before they plan to travel to Australia.
If you apply from outisde Australia, you must be outside Australia to be granted this visa.
If you are in Australia and wish to extend your visa, you must meet the criteria and apply at least 2 weeks before your current visa expires.
Once your twelve month tourist visa has been granted, you will be able to study or train for up to 3 months. However any paid work is not permitted. Some voluntary work is seen as acceptable as long your main purpose in visiting Australia is tourism.
If you meet the criteria and your visa is granted you will recieve confirmation, usually by E-Mail, which will outline all terms and conditions of your visa. We advise you to take a printed out copy of this even though your visa is electronically tagged to your passport.
