Australian 12 Month Tourist Visa Obligations
You must comply with the conditions of your visa once it has been granted. On a 12 month tourist visa you must not work at any point during your stay in Australia.
If you wish to study, you can only do this for up to 3 months. Any training or studying over 3 months will require a student visa.
Once granted, you will have 12 months to enter Australia. You can not defer or extend the length of time the visa is valid until. Once you have entered Australia you have 12 months to spend in the country, and you must leave Australia once your tourist visa ceases.
If you overstay on your visa, you will become an unlawful non-citizen and can be detained or removed from Australia. You can extend your visa if you have met the conditions of your current visa and a 'no further stay condition' was not issued on your visa grant notification.
