Australian 6 Month Tourist Visa Requirements
To be eligible for an Australian 6 month tourist visa you must meet the following criteria:
- The purpose of your visit must be to Australia must be for a holiday, tourism or to visit your family or friends.
- If you lodge your application whilst in Australia, you must also be in Australia at the time a decision is made on your application.
- If you lodge your application whilst outside Australia, you must also be outside at the time a decision is made on your application.
- You must meet health and character requirements.
If you have any health conditions or criminal convictions, you must declare them so that immigration can make a decision on your application at their discretion using the information that will be requested to help support your application.
You must also have a valid passport from one of the following countries.

- Hong Kong (SAR)*
- Iceland
- Ireland
- Italy
- Japan
- Liechtenstein
- Luxembourg

* A Hong Kong Document of Identity (HKDI) cannot be used to apply for an ETA. Residents of Hong Kong require a citizen passport to apply for this visa.
** Holders of Taiwan passports can only be processed for an ETA if residing and applying in Taiwan. Applications can be lodged with an approved ETA travel agent in Hong Kong, or Australian Visa Services officers in Taipei.
