Australian Prospective Marriage Visa

The prospective marriage visa is for couples who are intending to marry. Either you or your partner must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

There are two parts to this type of application – the sponsorship and the visa application. The Australian citizen or permanent resident must be the sponsor.

The prospective marriage visa is valid for nine months. You must marry your partner during this time. You are permitted to live and work in Australia prior to your marriage. Once you are legally married, you may apply for your spouse visa to allow you to remain in Australia. You must apply for your spouse visa before your prospective marriage visa expires.

You must provide evidence of your relationship to support your application, including:

Evidence of your forth-coming marriage
Evidence that you have physically met face to face
Relationship statements from each of you
Witness statements from family & friends confirming your relationship
Evidence that you intend to live in a genuine married relationship
Knowledge of each other's personal circumstances
Joint financial/legal commitments
Evidence of sponsor's employment

The fees for the prospective marriage visa are:

$96.00 USD initial registration fee
$1995.00 AUD government fee
$1,509.00 USD + VAT administration fee (payable in two parts)
